Ramos-Horta launches official website of the Presidency of the Republic of Timor-Leste

Dear Raul and all,

Remember seeing the film ‘The Diplomat’ in Newcastle, England, with
my Timorese, & English family, also solidarity & supporters of Timor
Leste. Most were shocked by the films ethos, which seemed to be
Ramos-Horta talking about how he had gained independence single
handily (it was apparent from the talk they gave afterwards that my
Timorese family were pretty upset by the film). Don’t have much believe
in his humbleness, (perhaps a long time ago)

Was present at Tasi Tola in 2002 for independence celebrations, when
Ramos-Horta gave his talk, which mainly seemed to be thanking people
who had supported the occupation and supplied weapons to Indonesian.
Was also present when he talked to the Internally Displaced people from
the IDP camp outside Nicolas Lobato Airport in 2006, a couple of days
before the talk Ramos-Horta had been met by a delegation of people from
the camp on his return to Dili, who were concerned about the way the ADF
were behaving. Ramos-Horta seemed to be blaming the displaced people for
the bad behaviour of the ADF.

Wasn’t really impressed by either talk, nor was I impressed when he
stated that America had the right to bomb Iraq- that comment
distressed a lot of people, he has now referred to Obama’s wisdom
in invading Afghanistan, indeed in increasing the number of troops out
there, – something about deterring terrorists- not sure how that works
but wonder how either Obama or Horta got the Noble Peace Prize,
perhaps the criteria includes bombing or supporting the bombing of
civilians. There have been no terrorist attacks from anyone in
Afghanistan in Britain, Europe or America – as for the Taliban they
were put there and supported by America, as were Saddam’s and Suharto’s
regimes – should also be noted that one mans terrorist is another mans
freedom fighter.

When Ramos-Horta was questioned about his comments on Iraq he replied he
was a diplomat, think that means you say one thing to one set of
people and something else to another, then usually do what’s best for
you.

A Timorese friend said this was the role of a diplomat, guess its
also the role of politicians, one of Obama’s pledges before election was
that he would change America’s foreign policy – he’d only been in
office awhile before America started bombing Pakistan, then left Iraq
to invade Afghanistan – course our hypocritical lot Blair and Brown
don’t like to be left out – Blair joined the invasion on Iraq
against the will of the British people, he’s now facing an enquiry on
how he lied about weapons of mass destruction to make the invasion seem
more acceptable, and Brown not to be outdone is supporting Obama in his
quest to continue the conquest of the world, while lying about how the
bombing of civilians is going to make the world a safer place.

Guess what I’m saying Raul is, think its necessary to have a good
opposition party (which I think Timor-Leste has, can’t say the same for
Britain or America the only parties that can get in have so little
difference many people find little point in voting – voting systems
here are rigged against green/socialist parties in favour of parties
that support capitalism) so don’t just mean parliamentary opposition,
but mean people who will remind Presidents and politicians of their
promises, however take your point that maybe what happened in February
2008 has something to do with Ramos-Horta’s reluctance to rock the
boat.

Lidia

Re: Ramos-Horta launches official website of the Presidency of the
Republic of Timor-Leste

Dear all
LET YOURSELF BE HYPOCRITICAL, MR PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC

Fátima Robalo – Timor Hau Nian Doben 20 January 2010

The President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta has just launched the
Internet site of the Presidency of the Republic of Timor-Leste, a site
interesting that comes the time to learn more precisely what and does
the President for the country and for the Timorese.

In their first words for that site, the President of the Republic is
humble in writing, but it was clear that way as defined. In English,
says “above all, as the President of the poor and the weak.”

I would like to be able to understand what Dr. Ramos-Horta mean
“President of the poor and the weak.” Not what we have seen. Mr
President has protected those who systematically misled us, this case
the current Government. Mr President does not refer, never for damage
caused by AMP Government to the country and especially to our poor and
weak brothers Timorese. No doubt corruption, collusion and the nepotism
that scandalously is noticed and commented on by all of us, is cause
for more difficulties to the poorest and weakest. For the simple reason
that it should be for the satisfaction of all the most needy but simply
goes to the pockets or to the bank accounts and superb expenses by the
elected members that occupy the seats of power in the country. Today we
read news, President of Indonesia call on attention to Mr Xanana
Gusmão. And he said simply spending in Indonesia, in Bali, but in other
places known of immorality of the misuse of the public funds made by
Ministers and other elected individuals so- called parliamentary
majority. In reality what did the President of the Republic? Who saw
him taking an unequivocal position on the immoralities practised by
Government about KKN? Nobody saw, because the President never willing
to deal it with truth and firmness. Talk about corruption, yes, Mr
President, but covers only employees and entrepreneurs of little
importance and whose responsibility in large KKN is virtually zero. The
President is deceiving the Timorese to say what it says on the defender
and protector of the poor and the weak. Unless you consider charity as
an adequate protection.

The attitude of the President of the Republic, Dr. Ramos-Horta, in its
first words on the site of the Presidency of the Republic, is
absolutely hypocrisy. I am aware of that and I hope that the President
meditate on these words of a sincere Timorese teacher who need
absolutely had to depart from the country but is relatively close to
visit and visit family and friends.

José Ramos-Horta is also my President, I had voted for him. For this
reason I should listen and observe what they promised when was
candidate to Presidency. By the fact promised to be the President of
the poor and the helpless, but apart from a few crumbs which offers
nothing more you see of its electoral promises.

Mr President of the Republic do you feel scare of Mr Gusmão? Afraid
from someone can hurt you again badly, as on 11 February 2008? And you
know who the head of 11 February was? You know, we all know. For this
reason does not expose and uses words hypocrites? Do you feel fear?
Since then is preferable that the President does not say words
hypocritical as chose to open the official site of the Presidency. It
is preferable to speak of events such as the bicycle Tour, the
international fishing event, things futile. Like Américo Thomaz did,
President of the Portuguese Colonial Government, for example. About the
site, excluding the opening remarks with which Mr President managed to
outrage us, their existence comes well and without doubt gets more and
better information about the Presidency, if not used for manipulating
and misleading advertising. Congratulations, it was a good
initiative. We awaits the loyalty that Mr President José Ramos-Horta
assured and is not fulfilling. It there is always time to regret since
that at the appropriated time to remedy the injustice that all days
fall on the poor and weak. It is the vast majority of Timorese.

Dr. José Ramos-Horta launches official website
of the Presidency of the Republic of Timor-Leste

The official website of the Presidency of the Democratic Republic of
Timor-Leste was launched today by the Head of State, Dr. Ramos-Horta,
on the occasion of the New Year’s reception for the Diplomatic Corps
accredited to Dili.

In its inaugural English version, this new website of the
Presidency of RDTL can be found at the domain
http://www.presidency.tl . The
Portuguese version will be launched under
http://www.presidencia.tl .

It is a dual website, the first containing the information on the
Presidency. The second consists of the President José-Ramos-Horta’s
website, working on three different platforms.

In total, beside the hundreds of text and image pages which fill up the
content, dozens of screens for videos and photographs are available,
with different presentations enlivened by soundtracks.

Dr. Ramos-Horta delivered a speech based on the theme “Timor-Leste:
Peace after the tempest, the upcoming years”, available online at the
Presidency’s website.

The ceremony took place at the Salão Nobre República Popular da China
at the Presidential Palace Nicolau Lobato, with the presence of more
than 150 individualities, mostly diplomats.

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for
Timor-Leste, Ameerah Haq, and relevant personalities from
the organization, UNPOL’s Commissioner, Luís Carrilho,
elements of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO), and
administration officers from institutions and companies
operating in the country also took part in the event.

The Commander in Chief of FALINTIL-FDTL, Major General Taur
Matan Ruak, and PNTL’s General Commander, Dr. Longuinhos
Monteiro, also participated.
