BaFutura: Australian-Timorese partnership brings healing to East Timor and art to Melbourne

TRANSFORMING LIVES THROUGH HUMAN RIGHTS AND ART

Australian-Timorese partnership brings healing to
East Timor and art to Melbourne

This October, Ishka’s Richmond store will host an
exhibition of artworks by East Timorese children
and youth to promote the efforts of Ba Futuru’s
work with conflict-affected and at-risk young people in East Timor.

Ba Futuru (meaning “For the Future”) is a
non-governmental organisation co-founded by
Melbourne University PhD candidate, Danielle
Ujvari. Since its establishment in 2004, Ba
Futuru’s Transformative Arts and Human Rights
Education program has brought psychosocial
recovery, human rights education, peace-building
and the arts to over 10,000 children and youth in
orphanages, Internally Displaced Persons camps,
schools, prisons and youth centres in East Timor.
Some of these young people have asked that their
artworks be sent to Australia in order to raise
awareness of Ba Futuru’s efforts in bringing
peace once again to their community.

Join East Timor’s President Jose Ramos Horta,
UNICEF and the Lonely Planet Foundation in supporting Ba Futuru’s work.

The opening will be held at Ishka’s Richmond
Store, 455-457 Bridge Road Richmond and will
feature original, framed artworks by East
Timorese children and youth, photographs of the
young artists, and the musical talents of
Timorese musicians. Note: all photographs and
works of art are for sale shop ethically these
holidays. The evening will open with addresses
from Ba Futuru’s Australia-based Advisor,
Danielle Ujvari and visiting East Timorese Team
Leader, Vidal Campos. The Exhibition runs until …
